We're Falling In Love Again while Cruising
Dallas Sherringham explains why a cruise can save your relationship
We all know how the pressures of modern life can slowly dampen the flame of passion that once lit up your world. Kids, job, traffic, a difficult boss, phones, texts, emails, relatives, gossiping workmates, nosey neighbors, financial pressures, housework -pick your problem and it slowly gnaws away at your relationship with your partner. ‘Things’ get between you and the one you love and seem to be slowly act as an ever widening chasm between the two of you. Fear not, we have the answer to your marital melancholy – a cruise. But not just any cruise, take the cruise of your dreams. Whether it’s the Caribbean, Tahiti, Alaska or the Med., loosen the purse strings and live a little, love a lot. I’ve been there done that! My wife and I were flat out with our careers and businesses and by the end of the year we were a ‘bit frayed around the edges’. So, we saved up our pennies each year and took a cruise. We Fell In Love Again Adrift on the sea, we fell in love again like the first time. No kids, no phones, no stress, no meals to prepare, washing to be done….just a time for love. The burdens of the year were stripped in a couple of days and we were young again. We saw each other as we saw each other for the first time. I gazed upon her as we watched the deep blue ocean gliding by and thought, ‘God you’re a beautiful human being. How lucky am I’. Over a glass of champagne at dinner that evening I told what I was thinking and she reached out and held my hand. That touch meant so much to me. Enough of cherished days gone by, what I am saying to you is to be young again on your cruise. Do things you would never do at home. Go exploring, swim on reefs, dance all night, sing and have a cocktail or three. It really works, whether you are 21 or 101. If you talk your cruise company, I think they sometimes have Romance Packages to enhance your ‘second honeymoon’. When considering one, look at value for money. Sometimes they toss in some lucrative extras. OVER TO THE EXPERTS: Flight Centre’s Cruise Together ‘A couple’s cruise focuses on allowing partners to enjoy quality time together without interruption or distraction. They generally restrict children as passengers and organise activities for enthusiasts who enjoy a well –rounded holiday. Alternatively take a traditional cruise and notify the on-board staff that you’d appreciate quality time with your partner and turn the cruise into your private couple’s experience. During your cruise enjoy a sumptuous suite with private balcony, the on-board spa facilities and sample delicious gourmet cuisine prepared lovingly by creative chefs. Finish off your day’s relaxation in an opulent supper club or sip cocktails in a piano bar. Tips for booking a couples cruise: -Choose a cruise ship that has little or no children's program. -Choose a cruise line that charges full price for child passengers as this tends to put off a lot of families. -Choose a luxury cruise liner, again this is often off-putting to families. -Travel outside the school holidays. -Stick to the adult-only areas of the ship such as bars, solarium and spas. -Avoid areas that are likely to appeal to younger passengers e.g. pools with water slides, deck games, ice cream parlors. |
